The Grove

Located in the foothills of Palos Verdes, the program of this elegant post and beam is held by two wings – one public, one private – on either side of a transparent entry bridge. Exterior colonnades flag the entry and circulation corridors.

The rigor of the exposed structure juxtaposes the wild and verdant site, which is filled with mature oak and eucalyptus trees. A sunken living room and kitchen provide anchor for warm, familial spaces within the soaring sloped-roof architecture.

Terracotta floors and wood plank walls offer a nod to the local history of ranch-style architecture, with a bronze-paneled fireplace as dramatic foil. Soft, volumetric furnishings in tawny, desaturated tones complement clever built-ins and complete the singular composition of this family home.
